GENERAL INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS
BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, PLEASE CALL (526-7722)
 
1. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, unless accompanied by an Adult.

2. Please wear identification whilst volunteering (nametags are available).

3. Please sign in and out – date/time cards.

4. All volunteers are required to sign a release form.

5. Please keep names/discussions heard – confidential.

Volunteer Times

Mon – Wed & Fri
12:00 – 4:30

Thursdays
3:30 – 7:30

Saturdays & Sundays
12:00 – 3:30

Dog walking only
from 9:30 weekdays (Wednesday excepted)

Dog walking on public holidays
– by appointment only.

 

6. For disease + safety reasons:

* VOLUNTEERS ARE RESTRICTED TO ADOPTION AREAS ONLY
(These animals have been here the longest).

*This includes: - Playroom
- A room
- B room & K room (same room).
- G room (puppy adoption).
- H room (dog adoption).
- Rodent room.

7. Animals that are not together should be kept separated.

* Two reasons: 1. Safety of yourself + animals due to animals fighting.
2. Disease control – some are not yet vet checked.

Note: Yellow Tag - indicates the animal is not yet vaccinated.
Pink Tag - indicates a female animal – vaccinated.
Blue Tag - indicates a male animal – vaccinated.

8. Walking dogs:

a. Please do not walk dogs on owned property, always walk on fenced side of street and in coulee.

b. Off leash walks are not permitted:

OFF LEASH PERMITTED IN DOG CORRAL ONLY, ONE DOG AT A TIME!

c. Ensure collar fits snugly (check with staff if unsure).

d. Never use a choke chain.

e. Pick up stools (Bags are provided).

f. Use praise and treats (check to see if dog can have them before commencing walk) to encourage good behavior.

g. DO NOT reward bad behavior:

i.e. Barking (ignore).
Jumping up on you (ignore).

9. Detecting illness:

You can help us to ensure the animals are healthy. Please report anything unusual to a member of staff.

Upper Respiratory Infections generally cause sneezing in cats. Change smock and wash hands prior to handling other dogs so disease is not carried in.

Visit puppies/kittens before handling the older animals so that disease is not spread from adult’s to youngsters.

10. If you remove an animal from a cage please ensure you return it to the correct cage before exiting the room (risk of breeding).

11. Please do not feed the animals unless instructed to do so by an SPCA staff member.

12. Please do not wander around the building. Some areas are off limits and some animals are not to be handled (liability). Read signs and ask for help –
