Legacy Gifts

Naming the Medicine Hat SPCA in your Will.

Thank you for considering a legacy gift for the animals in your Will.

It is up to you to decide how your bequest will be used, and we will honor your wishes. If you are unsure, please contact our Board Treasurer (contact information below) and they would be happy to review your options and answer any questions you may have.

Bequests left for use for the Greatest Need, will of course be used for the most urgent need at the time. Designated bequests can be directed to a specific area, or for a particular program. If you wish to create a restricted bequest please contact, or have the legal professional drafting your Will, contact the Medicine Hat SPCA (see contact information below) to ensure that the correct bequest language is used, and to ensure that the Society can use the bequest for the stated purpose.

Bequest Language for the Greatest Need

For bequests that benefit animals of Medicine Hat and Area:
“I give to the Medicine Hat Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8E8 (the sum of $__________) OR (____% of the residue of my estate). I request that the funds be used for the Greatest Need.”

Designated Bequest Language for a Gift to a Program

“I give to the Medicine Hat Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8E8 (the sum of $__________) OR (____% of the residue of my Estate). I request that it be used for the benefit of the (name of program). ”

Power to Vary Clause

What may be the needs and priorities of the society TODAY may not be the needs and priorities in the distant future. Please consider using the “Power to Vary Clause” below in your Will:
“In the event future circumstances render the specific use for which my gift is intended impossible or impractical, then I authorize the Board of Directors of the Medicine Hat SPCA to adjust the purpose for which my gift shall be used with such changes to be consistent with the spirit and general intent of my gift.”

If the gift is being directed towards a specific use, we encourage you to use this paragraph in your Will. This will ensure that your gift is used in the best way possible.

Endowments

You can also establish an endowment in your Will with a minimum bequest of $50,000.00. The gift is invested and the income from the capital is used for a purpose that the donor specified in their Will.
